Yvonne
Esmailian, Nurse Practitioner
I received my
Diploma in Nursing from Northwest Texas Hospital school of
Nursing in 1985, after having attended the University of
Southern Colorado for pre-requisite courses.
While employed as an RN in Critical Care at Northwest Texas
Hospital, I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
(BSN) from West Texas State University in 1987.
I
received my Critical Care RN certification (CCRN) and continued
to work in the critical care setting through July 2000. While
employed at USC University hospital I began to care for liver
and kidney transplant patients within a combined surgical ICU
setting.
In the fall of 1997, I was accepted into the graduate nursing
program at UCLA. I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Douglas
Farmer as one of my clinical preceptors, which allowed me
further exposure to liver transplant patients and also
intestinal transplant patients. I received my Master of Science
degree in nursing (MSN) specializing as an Acute Care Nurse
Practitioner (ACNP) in the summer of 1999. I received board
certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center the
same year.
I began my NP career at UCLA with the division of Cardiothoracic
surgery. My role included perioperative care for adult and
pediatric cardiothoracic surgery patients within the acute care
setting including heart and lung transplant patients.
In December of 2003, a nurse practitioner position was developed
by the division of liver and intestinal transplantation. The
goal of this position was for the nurse practitioner to
collaborate in the medical management of the small bowel
transplant patients and also the pre-operative liver population.
I was fortunate enough to be accepted for this position and
began working with the team in January of 2004. I work closely
with Dr. Farmer in the daily management of the small bowel
transplant patients. I also closely collaborate with the liver
transplant fellows and hepatologists in the management of the
pre-transplant end stage liver disease patients .
