Referrals
If you would like
to be seen at UCLA Medical Center as a visitor from another country, please
contact the International Relations Office. You can call (310) 794-8759
to speak with an International Patient Coordinator, or you can e-mail
your inquiry to international@mednet.ucla.edu.
Our fax number is (310) 794-8696. Below is an overview of the entire process:
- Send Medical
Records.
Send complete and current medical records to UCLA International Relations
including copies of any relevant radiologic scans and test results.
- Receive Medical
and Financial Clearance. A UCLA physician will review your case
and form a preliminary treatment plan. In some cases, UCLA will not
be able to offer any advanced care beyond what you are receiving. If
you are accepted as a patient, you will need to provide either a deposit
of estimated charges or an approved authorization from a U.S.-based
insurance firm. International Relations provides an estimate of charges
when needed.
- Schedule Appointment.
Once the full deposit or approved authorization is received, your International
Patient Coordinator will help you schedule an appointment at a convenient
time with the most appropriate UCLA physician. Your coordinator will
help you complete all the necessary forms for appointment scheduling
and registration.
- Facilitating
Your Visit. Your UCLA International Relations Coordinator will communicate
with you throughout the referral process and will assist you once you
arrive. We will arrange for any special needs you have and inform you
of what to expect when you get to UCLA. For example, we commonly arrange
accommodations in UCLA's Guest House, identify the need for an interpreter,
and send information about UCLA policies. Your UCLA physician will coordinate
all aspects of your medical care.
- Departure Meeting.
Typically, your International Relations Coordinator will arrange a final
meeting with you to review your stay and provide you with your final
patient accounting statements or bills (final bills are not always available
just after the conclusion of your care).
If you have any questions,
please don't hesitate to call or e-mail, and one of our International
Patient Coordinators will be happy to help you.
